In late May, University of Virginia swimming stars Gretchen and Alex Walsh were poolside in Charlottesville. Ordinarily, that would not be surprising. The decorated pair are about to compete for Team USA at the Olympics in Paris and a pool is never far.
What was unusual was that they were not at their home pool at UVA’s Aquatic and Fitness Center. Instead, the sisters were at the pool at the nearby Boar’s Head Resort for a video-shooting session with NBC, which is broadcasting the Summer Games.
The Walsh women gathered with their parents, Robert and Glynis, producers and a camera crew for a daylong shoot for a feature the network will air during the Games. Opening ceremonies are Friday.
UVA Today photographer Matt Riley was on hand for the day and captured this image of Gretchen and Alex reminiscing over a scrapbook with their parents.
Can you spot the camera monitor? How about a boom mic? Test your skills and see if you can beat the clock like Gretchen did in June when she broke a world record to qualify for her first Games. And don’t forget to cheer on the Hoos!
