Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Irvin Arthur Fischer, a former director of the Office of Sponsored Programs at the University of Virginia, died July 14 in Charlottesville. He was 94.

Fischer retired from the Air Force in 1966. At U.Va., he worked as the internal auditor and then director of Sponsored Programs until retiring from the University in 1982. A lifelong golfer, he played into his final year.
