November Safety Tip: 'Hoos Celebrating Safely

The Safety Tip is provided by U.Va.'s Office of Emergency Preparedness on the 11th of every month.

November 11, 2011 — University of Virginia football fans everywhere are loving the winning feeling as the 'Hoos are bowl-eligible for the first time since 2007 – and there are still two home games to enjoy! Let's be sure we celebrate our wins as best we can and as safely as possible.

When the Cavaliers upset Georgia Tech, 24-21, on Homecoming Weekend, fans stormed the field. What most folks are not aware of is that the area adjacent to the student section became a "pileup of people," creating a frightening and dangerous experience for many.

We are a community that cares for one another. As we host Duke and Virginia Tech in the coming weeks, support the team from the stands. Wear orange and blue from head to toe, cheer for the Cavs and belt the "Good Ol' Song" – and let's keep players, coaches, staff and fans safe.
