Aug. 21, 2007 -- The University of Virginia Art Museum will hold an open house and information session on Sept. 8, from 10:30-11:30 a.m., for community members with a passion for art and who are interested in becoming museum docents.

Docents create and lead interactive tours of the museum’s collections and special exhibitions for groups of all ages and interests, including schoolchildren, University students and adults.

The Docent Training program teaches docents to:

• Develop visual literacy and speaking skills
• Learn and present interactive tours to visitors of all ages
• Explore art history and the museum’s collections and exhibitions
• Help with community programs like the Writer’s Eye

The training program runs every Thursday, Sept. 20 through Nov. 29, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program is led by docent educator Linda Levokove, who brings years of experience as a docent and chair of the docent program at Boca Raton Museum of Art.
