October 28, 2010 — Fourth-year studio art majors in the University of Virginia's College of Arts & Sciences will exhibit their work in the second-floor gallery at the McGuffey Art Center from Nov. 3 though 21. An opening reception is scheduled for Nov. 5 at 5 p.m.
The exhibit, "Element! Volume!," includes work in a variety of media, including new media, painting, printmaking, cinematography, sculpture and photography. The show was conceived as a "preview show" of works by students who expect to graduate in May.
The students decided to have the show because they wanted to get their work off Grounds and into the Charlottesville community, said Simon Biddle-Snead, one of the artists.
The opening reception will include projected screenings of all moving work. Smaller screens will be used for the remainder of the show.
The artists whose work is represented in the exhibit are Vidya Avadhanam, Nasreen Bawazer, Simon Biddle-Snead, Justin Black, Loey Bleich, Susannah Cadwalader, Alex Chiou, Ece Ciftci, Debra Cohen, Bena Dam, Brianne Dickey, Katharine Fraser, Lauren Gorey, Lyndsay Harper, South Holden, Caroline Hoover, Mei-Jean Hsu, Tyler Jordan, Rachel Lafaye, Devin Maguire, Caroline McCraw, Anthony Mihota, Kelsey Nix, Calli Ryan, Andrew Salmon, Takahiro Suzuki, Linh Trung and Yolanda Yu.
The McGuffey Art Center, located at 201 Second St. NW, is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.
