“As an elementary school English teacher, I have had to learn how to responsibly engage with teaching English in a rural, indigenous community,” he said. “This has been a great opportunity for me to both be fully immersed in Taiwan and learn about Paiwan culture within Taiwanese society. Instead of being in a huge city, my roommates and I have forged intimate connections with our students and communities and spend ample time exploring the mountains and beaches of our rural county.”
The Office of Citizen Scholar Development annually hosts a Fulbright Forum to initiate a new Fulbright application cycle, with four past Fulbright recipients participating in a panel discussion and small reception. This year’s event is scheduled for Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. in the Special Collections Library Auditorium.
