An idle late-night tweet kicked off a chain reaction that resulted in about 125 members of the University of Virginia community joining President Jim Ryan for an early-morning run this week.
Just after midnight on Sept. 11, fourth-year student Lukas Pietrzak posted about one of his goals and tagged the University’s ninth president.
On Monday, Ryan responded. He’s an avid runner and marathoner, so much so that his inauguration weekend plans include a community 5k.
Ryan not only invited Pietrzak and his friend to join him for a morning run, he opened the event up to anyone who wanted to come along.
Hey @PacharyZhillips and @Ltpietrzak: I hope you’re both morning people.— Jim Ryan (@presjimryan) October 1, 2018
Let’s go for that run! Tomorrow, 6:30 AM in front of Madison Hall. Bring friends.
And any/all are welcome to join, too! pic.twitter.com/l9wn5P2EUK
The next morning, about 125 people – many of them students – showed up at Madison Hall to join Ryan for a 6:30 a.m. run. It was enough interest for him to announce another open run next week.
It was a true joy getting to see everyone, and I really can't imagine a better start to the day. Same time, same place next week. All are welcome! pic.twitter.com/I9wLCuROAX— Jim Ryan (@presjimryan) October 2, 2018
