The Virginia Glee Club Finals Concert to be Held on May 17

May 15, 2008 — The Virginia Glee Club will honor the Class of 2008 on Saturday, May 17 at its annual Finals Concert. The concert will begin at 9:30 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall Auditorium.

General admission tickets are $15 and student tickets are $5, and may be purchased at Mincer's, the Newcomb Hall Ticket Office (434-924-7314), or at the door. For online information, visit www.virginiagleeclub.org.

The program will showcase timeless classics and novel pieces, including "Lambscapes," an amusing twist on a popular children’s song, as well as "Down the Mother-Volga River," a strong and compassionate rendition of a Russian folk tale. New to listeners’ ears will be "Not Heat Flames Up" and "Consumes," the fourth movement from Steven Sametz’s "We Two," a newly commissioned piece for the Glee Club. The work sets poetry from Walt Whitman’s "Leaves of Grass," the manuscript of which can be found in U.Va.'s Special Collections Library.

Audiences will also hear Franz Biebl’s perennial favorite, "Ave Maria," the beautifully arranged "Shenandoah" and an assortment of University songs to properly send off the graduates.
