August 30, 2010 — The Emmet Street entrance to the University of Virginia's Central Grounds Parking Garage will be closed from 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. each weeknight through Sept. 13 to accommodate construction of an addition to the University of Virginia Bookstore.
Garage patrons will be required to use the University Avenue entrance to the garage behind Newcomb Hall during evening and night hours.
A crane will be used to set steel beams in place and the western bays of the garage (closest to Emmet Street) will be closed out of safety concerns. Vehicles and pedestrians will not be allowed to travel through these three bays while steel is being placed.
Pedestrians will still be able to access the main stairs and elevators during this work and the parking garage and the sidewalk along Emmet Street will remain open as well.
