March 12, 2008 — Explore the vast world of lyrical music through the baritone voice of My es K. Glancy, delving into Baroque, Romantic, Contemporary, and Musical Theater genres. This two-part recital will take place at 8 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall at the University of Virginia on Tuesday, March 18.
During his performance, Glancy will share his interpretation of works by such paramount classical composers as J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms, Charles Ives, and Samuel Barber, appreciating their portrayal of the perfect fusion of text and music. Additionally, he will perform various musical theater tunes written by acclaimed theatrical composers, including songs from The Last 5 Years (Jason Robert Brown), The Scarlet Pimpernel (Frank Wildhorn), and Children of Eden (Stephen Schwartz).
Glancy, a vocalist trained in classical and theatrical genres, is originally from Richmond, VA, where he worked with teacher Sherri A. Matthews while participating in theater both at a high school level
(Mills E. Godwin H.S.) as well as a professional level (Godspell, Barksdale Theater, 2005). Now attending the University of Virginia, Glancy has been studying voice with Edmund Najera for more than three years, and his recital will serve as a summary of his strongest accomplishments during his time with Najera. Glancy has also performed locally with the U.Va. Drama Department (Songs for a New World, 2008) and the Ash Lawn Opera Festival (Sound of Music, 2007). Glancy’s plans for the future include attending graduate while keeping music as a primary hobby and devoted passion.
This recital is supported by the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund. Established in 2004 by the generosity of Mr. Alan Y. Roberts ('64) and Mrs. Sally G. Roberts, the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund underwrites the private lessons and recital costs for undergraduate music majors giving a recital in their fourth year as part of a distinguished major program in music.
