College student Hawa Ahmed says she remembers nothing about her first four years of life in a refugee camp on the Chad-Niger border. All she knows is she survived the desperate circumstances of her early years and then grew up in Lancaster watching her parents navigate language barriers and low-wage jobs to try to make ends meet and support their four children. Now 20 years old and thriving as a sophomore at the University of Virginia, Ahmed is a bit amazed at how far she's come.
