The largest universities in Maryland and Virginia remain two online behemoths: the public University of Maryland University College, with more than 49,000 students, and the private Liberty University, with more than 80,000. New data from state higher education authorities show that fall enrollment was relatively stable at most schools. The University of Virginia placed No. 5 in rankings under public universities in Virginia: 23,883 (up 1 percent from 23,732).
