Historian John Edwin Mason found a new path for his scholarship – at a racetrack.
After a decade spent photographing the drag racing community at Eastside Speedway in Waynesboro, he now teaches the history of photography at the University of Virginia and is one of the foremost scholars on the life and work of American photographer Gordon Parks.
