Win, Win, Win ... 24 Hours of Wahoo Bliss

On Saturday night, the University of Virginia women’s swimming and diving team claimed its fifth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship, setting off a nearly 24-hour wave of Wahoo athletic success.

Let’s dive in and relive it all.

9:10 p.m., Saturday – The Dynasty Rolls On 

The Cavaliers took another step toward a fourth straight national championship when they crushed the ACC competition in Greensboro, North Carolina.

UVA, headlined by Gretchen Walsh’s seven gold medals, set the ACC’s all-time championship meet scoring mark with 1,637.5 points. 

 

 

2:09 p.m., Sunday – Another Ranked Opponent, Another Win

For the third time in just over a month, the UVA women’s basketball team knocked off a nationally ranked opponent. 

The Wahoos upset No. 20 University of Louisville, 73-68, at the KFC Yum! Center in Kentucky.

It was a significant feat.

 

 

2:24 p.m., Sunday – Goals Galore 

The UVA women’s lacrosse team, under first-year head coach Sonia LaMonica, had its strongest offensive output of the season in a 20-11 rout of Cornell University. 

The No. 15 Cavaliers improved to 4-1 on the season. 

 

 

2:43 p.m., Sunday – More Success in the Bluegrass

No matter the sport, the Wahoos found Louisville to be a favorable place. 

The sixth-ranked UVA women’s tennis team made it a 2-for-2 day for the Cavaliers in the Cardinals’ home city, courtesy of a 6-1 win.

 

 

3:06 p.m., Sunday – Conquering the Big Ten (Again)

After a 14-8 win over No. 20 Ohio State University on Sunday, the UVA men’s lacrosse team has now toppled two of the best teams in the Big Ten conference this season.

The No. 3 Hoos opened the year with a 19-11 defeat of eighth-ranked University of Michigan on Feb. 10.

 

 

5:28 p.m., Sunday – Softball Shutdown

The UVA softball team not only swept its opponents – Iowa State University and University of Delaware – the Cavaliers didn’t allow a run in either game.

A walk-off single from Sarah Coon gave the Hoos a 1-0 win over Iowa State in the opener. 

 

 

UVA then blanked Delaware, 5-0, in the second game. 

 

 

7:58 p.m. Sunday – Statement in the Sunshine State 

The No. 14 baseball team closed the impressive stretch for UVA athletics, rallying to defeat Auburn University, 6-4, in the championship game of the Jax College Classic in Florida. 

The Cavaliers, who defeated Wichita State University on Friday and No. 18 University of Iowa on Saturday, have started 7-0 for a third straight season.
