The University of Virginia’s polo club is hosting the United States Polo Association’s Division I National Intercollegiate Championship this week, with schools such as Texas A&M University, Southern Methodist University, University of Kentucky, University of California, Davis and others riding at the UVA Polo Club’s indoor arena off Old Lynchburg Road.
The UVA men’s polo club team fell to Texas A&M, 29-8, on Tuesday in a first-round, six-chukker contest, eliminating the hosts from the competition. On Wednesday, the UVA women’s team downed the University of California, Davis 29-8, and advanced to Friday’s women’s semifinals.
Men’s and women’s preliminary matches were held during the week and the championship rounds are on Sunday. The women’s final is set for 10 a.m., and the men’s final is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
