Jenny Wales, Artistic Director, Virginia Theatre Festival
We're preparing for the 50th anniversary of the Virginia Theatre Festival, the professional theater here at UVA, and our production of “Little Shop of Horrors.”
People have been at work for weeks backstage – building the set, hanging the lights, making the props.
We have a company of almost 100 people, and I think people are surprised by how much work goes into the show.
The production side of things, on the ground, is probably a six-week process to build everything, paint everything, make it all come to life, but we start working on it six to seven months in advance to start realizing all the designs and putting them all together.
At the end, the experience that the audience is having is seamless, and you can't really tell how all of the work happened to create the world of “Little Shop of Horrors.”
