Nearly 2,000 students received exciting news Friday evening as the University of Virginia announced its final round of admission offers for the Class of 2029.
The University welcomed 1,642 people Friday evening during its third admission phase, called regular decision. More than 17,000 students applied. Of those, 3,519 applications came from Virginia residents and more than 14,000 came from outside of the state.
UVA has three admissions phases. In the first binding one, called early decision, UVA welcomed nearly 5,000 students. In February, the University extended offers to nearly 7,000 people during the non-binding early action cycle. Friday, UVA also admitted 226 students who were deferred during the previous session.
It was another record-breaking year for undergraduate applications to Virginia’s flagship school. In total, more than 64,000 people applied to join UVA’s incoming class. Last year, nearly 60,000 people applied to the Class of 2028.
“Each student brings with them a unique personal journey and life experience and their performance in the classroom speaks for itself,” Dean of Admission Greg Roberts said. “We look forward to meeting many of our admitted students over the next few weeks as they engage with the University, attending our Days on The Lawn events, UVA gatherings in their communities, or simply tuning in online for special admitted student programming.”
Admitted students have until May 1 to decide whether to accept their offers of admission. The class size target is 3,970.
