The Music Beat: Chris Stapleton brings his ‘All-American Road Show’ tour back to JPJ

One of the most award-winning names in country music played at the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena over the weekend.

Chris Stapleton – an accomplished songwriter, singer and musician who has been named the Country Music Association’s Male Vocalist of the Year a record eight times – continued his “All-American Road Show Tour” with two nights in Charlottesville. He opened both nights with one of his newest songs, “Bad As I Used To Be,” written for the upcoming movie “F1.” Friday’s set list included tracks from nearly every album the artist has released since beginning his solo career in 2015, as well as covers of songs by The SteelDrivers, Stapleton’s first band.

The tour has been running since 2017. (How’s that for an Eras Tour?) The tour previously stopped at JPJ in October 2023.

On Friday, the arena was nearly at capacity as fans gathered to watch Stapleton sing hits like “Nobody to Blame” and “Tennessee Whiskey.”
