To the University Community,
I write this looking out the window of Pavilion VIII toward the Rotunda, where preparations are underway for Lighting of the Lawn. Soon, thousands of people will gather for one of UVA’s most beloved — and coldest — traditions. And by the looks of it, this year’s version won’t disappoint.
This season is a reminder of just how much we all have to be thankful for as members of this remarkable community.
For me, that includes the students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends I have had a chance to meet this year. Your kindness and genuine passion for this university are an inspiration, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be on this journey with you.
I am also glad so many people could be a part of this year’s holiday video, which you can see above. It was the best way we could think of to get Tony Bennett, Tina Thompson, the Hullabahoos, and Cavpup to do something together.
From our family to yours, I want to wish all of you a healthy and happy holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the new year.
Best,
Jim Ryan
President
