Judith Shatin, professor of music and founding director of the Virginia Center for Computer Music, was awarded an invitation-only McKim Commission from the Library of Congress. She will compose a piece for violin and piano, which will premiere in a December 2008 concert at the library. The McKim Fund was established in 1970 in recognition of Leonora Jackson McKim (1880-1969), one of the first American women concert violinists to achieve international fame.
