Architecture Week Kids' Day Workshop to Focus on Jefferson's Academical Village

April 13, 2010 — The Central Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the University of Virginia Art Museum will offer a special family program for AIA Architecture Week 2010. "Kids' Day Workshop: Design and Build Your Own Academical Village" will be held April 25, from 1-3 p.m., for 5- to 8-year-olds and their parents or adult guardians.

Workshop participants are invited to spend an afternoon with local architect Andy Orban of Orban Design, and others as they lead children on a tour of the Academical Village, and use copies of Jefferson's original plans for the University to help them understand the design process. Then children will use the concepts they've learned to create their own Academical Village out of cardboard, paper and other recycled materials.

This activity is free, but reservations are required. To register, call 434-243-2050 or e-mail museumoutreach@virginia.edu.
