Batten School to Host Conference on Women in Leadership Friday

The University of Virginia’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy will host its second annual “Building Public Servants” conference on Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Garrett Hall. Media are welcome.

This year’s theme is “Women, Leadership and Policy.”

Highlights include a “Policy Careers” panel at 11 a.m. featuring Virginia lieutenant governor candidate Jeannemarie Devolites Davis, a former state senator; Holly Edwards, former vice mayor of Charlottesville; and Kathleen Hartnett, former special assistant and associate counsel to President Obama.

U.Va. School of Law professor Anne Coughlin will deliver the keynote address at 2 p.m., discussing women in combat. A screening of the documentary “Miss Representation” will be followed by discussion with media studies professor Andrea Press of U.Va.’s College of Arts & Sciences.
