As the University of Virginia announced during spring break that it was shifting all of its courses online and closing dorms due to the growing COVID-19 pandemic, the Division of Housing and Residence Life worked tirelessly to assist students who could not return to Grounds to collect their belongings, packing and storing items for more than 400 suddenly displaced residents of University housing.
University photographer Sanjay Suchak captured the results: more than 5,000 boxes, including those shown here at Slaughter Recreation Center, safely packed and waiting for their owners to return.
Students’ belongings were packed and stored free of charge, and boxes could be shipped to their owners over the summer or held for the fall semester. Students who elected to wait until the fall have received instructions about how to pick up their items when they return to Grounds.
