Community Health Fair Features Free Screenings

July 27, 2010 — Free health screenings and other offerings are planned for  the Charlottesville Community Health Fair on July 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Booker T. Washington Park on Preston Avenue in Charlottesville. The event is presented in conjunction with the 21st Annual African-American Arts Festival.

A community effort in the planning, the fair is coordinated by the University of Virginia's Office of the Vice President and Chief Officer for Diversity and Equity and co-sponsored by the U.Va. Health System, Martha Jefferson Hospital, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Health Department and the Quality Community Council.

Health care professionals and volunteers will be on hand to check a range of health conditions and give out information on the following:

• Alzheimer's
• Blood pressure
• Body mass index
• Breast health care
• Cancer
• Mammograms
• Diabetes
• Family planning
• Hearing services
• Heart health
• HIV
• Nutrition services
• Poison prevention
• Rabies prevention
