Construction Forces Changes to Old Cabell Hall Event Parking

Sept. 4, 2007 — New parking arrangements will greet patrons of fall events at the University of Virginia's Old Cabell Hall Auditorium.

Parking for Old Cabell events has been shifted from the B-1 lot on Jefferson Park Avenue to two other surface lots and a parking garage (see below). The B-1 lot has been closed to make way for the South Lawn Project, which will extend the core of the University across Jefferson Park Avenue and will provide classrooms, academic offices, special project and social space for the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.

The new parking venues are within walking distance of Old Cabell Hall and shuttle buses will be available for some events. Personnel will be posted around Grounds to assist patrons for the first few concerts of the season. With the new parking patterns, concert goers are asked to allow extra time to locate the new parking lots and walking routes.

The new parking venues are:

• The Central Grounds garage, on Emmet Street under the University Bookstore. Open to everyone; parking charges apply (60¢ per hour Monday through Saturday after 5 p.m. and Sunday all day; $1.80 per hour Monday through Saturday before 5 p.m.)

• The T-4 Scott Stadium parking lot. Open to everyone; free of charge on evenings and on weekends. For larger events, such as performances by the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra, shuttle buses will run from the stadium lot to Old Cabell Hall. Information about the shuttle service will be posted on the music department’s Web site (www.virginia.edu/music/parking/) and listed on its calendar.

• The C-1 parking lot, located off McCormick Road behind Clark and Bryan halls. This lot is prioritized for patrons with limited mobility and will require special permits for most events.

For the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra, C-1 permit information will be sent to subscribers. The contact is Caroline Wilhelm at (434) 924-3139.

For the Tuesday Evening Concert Series: C-1 permit information will be sent to subscribers, with Karen Pellón, (434) 244-9505, as the contact.

For the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival, C-1 permit information will be sent to subscribers, and Linda Monahan, (434) 295-5395, will be the contact.

For all other events, C-1 permits will be distributed at the Old Cabell Hall box office.
To receive a permit by mail, call the box office at (434) 924-3984 at least 10 days before the performance.

Additional information about parking will be posted on the McIntire Department of Music’s Web site (www.virginia.edu/music/parking), or patrons may call the Cabell Hall Box Office at (434) 924-3984 or the music department at (434) 924-3052.
