Curry Professor Derrick P. Alridge to Give Du Bois Lecture

January 23, 2012 — Derrick P. Alridge, professor in the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education, has been invited to give the 18th Annual W.E.B. Du Bois Birthday Lecture at the Du Bois Center at the University of Massachusetts on Feb. 23.

Alridge, the first U.Va. faculty member to be the keynote lecturer for this event, will speak on "Ideas Have Consequences: The Radical Pedagogy of W.E.B. Du Bois."

Alridge is the author of "The Educational Thought of W.E.B. Du Bois: An Intellectual History," among other publications. He is currently completing an intellectual history about hip hop as a social movement for the University of Wisconsin Press and conducting research for a book on the role of education in the Civil Rights Movement.
