David Gies' Spanish Cinema Website Gets NEH Endorsement

April 14, 2011 — The National Endowment for the Humanities' portal, EDSITEment, placed a Spanish cinema website produced by David Gies, Commonwealth Professor of Spanish in the University of Virginia's College of Arts & Sciences, on its list of "Best-of-the-Web Spanish Language Websites."

Gies created his website, "Cine con Clase," in 2004 with NEH funding, featuring films clips to teach Spanish to high school teachers, advanced high school students and college students. He uses it in his teaching in the Center for the Liberal Arts, which provides enrichment courses for kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers, as well as in some of his U.Va. classes.

A peer review panel composed of teachers and leaders in education and non-profit organizations determined that "Cine con Clase" met the EDSITEment criteria "for intellectual quality, content, design and most importantly, classroom impact."
