Employees Urged to Opt for Online W-2

December 11, 2009 — This year, University of Virginia employees can access their W-2 form online and get their taxes done sooner – and save paper. To do so, they must opt out of getting the paper copy.

As an incentive, everyone on the University payroll who opts out of getting a paper W-2 by Dec. 18 will be entered in a drawing for prizes, including an iPod and a laptop computer.

The printable, online W-2 forms will be available in mid-January, weeks before the paper versions will be mailed. (This year, the paper W-2 must be postmarked by Feb. 1).

Employees who don't change the method of receiving the paper version will receive it in the mail.

The IRS has approved the online process.

Go to www.hrs.virginia.edu/6steps.html for instructions on switching to the online W-2.
