Fireworks Display to Mark Public Launch of U.Va.'s $3 Billion Campaign

Sept. 26, 2006 -- On Friday, Sept. 29, the University will host a brilliant fireworks show over the Rotunda. The display will mark the public launch of the University’s $3 billion campaign. The
fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m. During the display, the marching band will perform at the steps of the Rotunda on the north Lawn. Several thousand people are expected to attend this event. Students and staff are welcome.

Preparation for this event will begin early on the morning of Sept. 29. To ensure safety, fencing will be placed around the fireworks launch site as well as around the north side of the Rotunda (from the Chapel along University Avenue to Brooks Hall) beginning Friday morning.

University Avenue from Rugby Road to 14th Street will be closed on Sept. 29 from 9:30-10 p.m. At that time, the Lawn will be accessible to the public from all major entrances except those immediately surrounding the Rotunda, i.e. sidewalks by the Chapel, Brooks Hall and the Rotunda itself.
