First-Year U.Va. Students Earn 'Living Now' Book Award

May 1, 2009 — University of Virginia students Christopher Beisswenger and Margaret Eldred, who just finished their first year at U.Va., were among authors recognized by Independent Publisher in its inaugural Living Now Book Awards.

The Living Now Book Awards honor the year's best books that aim to help readers attain healthier, more fulfilling and productive lives and that promote social change.

"An Unlikely Family: Voices of Ethiopian and American Youth Who are Turning Tragedy into Hope," from Anemone Publishing, won a silver medal in the Social Activism category. Along with Beisswenger and Margaret Eldred, the other authors of "An Unlikely Family" included Ben Beisswenger, Zoe Dmitrovsky, Meron Foster and Carolynne Krusi.
