Four Fourth-Year University of Virginia Studio Art Majors Exhibit Thesis Work at Off Grounds Gallery

March 31, 2008 — Four University of Virginia fourth-year studio art majors — Jesse Wells, James Dean Erickson, Andrew Mausert-Mooney and Patrick Costello — will exhibit new work at the McIntire Department of Art's Off Grounds Gallery. The exhibit, "Trying Despite," opens April 7 and runs through April 12. Wells makes oil paintings and prints. Erickson creates large mixed media paintings on cardboard. Mausert-Mooney makes short films and Costello's work encompasses sculpture, installation, print and drawing.

On April 10, there will be a potluck dinner.

A closing reception will be held on Friday, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. with musical performances by the U.Va. alumnus Andy Jenkins' soul-folk group, The Great White Jenkins  and syncopated acoustic and electric finger-style guitarist Nick Schillace starting at 8 p.m.

The Off Grounds Gallery, located at 300 West Main, is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m.; Fridays, from 3 to 7 p.m.; and Saturdays, from 1 to 5 p.m.

The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted for the musicians' performances.
