July 17, 2009 — For free health screenings and other offerings, visit the Charlottesville Community Health Fair on July 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Booker T. Washington Park on Preston Avenue in Charlottesville. The event is presented in conjunction with the 20th Annual African-American Arts Festival.
A community effort in the planning, the fair is coordinated by the University of Virginia's Office of the Vice President and Chief Officer for Diversity and Equity and co-sponsored by the U.Va. Health System, Martha Jefferson Hospital and the Charlottesville-Albemarle Health Department.
Health care professionals and volunteers will be on hand to check a range of health conditions, including:
• Aging
• Alzheimer's
• Blood pressure
• Body Mass Index
• Cancer family-planning
• Children's dental
• Diabetes
• Hearing services
• HIV
• Poison prevention
• Rabies prevention
• "Waist" management
• Youth sports physicals (must be scheduled in advance; call 434-243-4311. Sports physical forms are available at Charlottesville High School or by visiting here.
