Governor's Memo Does Not Apply to U.Va. Employees

August 31, 2009 — An e-mail sent Friday by the governor's chief of staff about health benefits does not apply to University of Virginia employees, according to University Human Resources.

The e-mail was sent to all state employees to announce a planned audit of all dependents on the state's health plan. The audit is intended to remove ineligible persons from the plan to help manage health care costs and protect benefits. It was announced during the state's open enrollment period earlier this year, when participants were encouraged to remove ineligible dependents during an "amnesty" period.

Because U.Va. has a self-funded health plan that is administered by Southern Health and is separate from the state's, this audit does not apply.
