Listen to the UVA Today Radio Show report on this story by Jane Ford:

May 24, 2010 — Heritage Theatre Festival launched sales on Monday for its 2010 season ticket sales and its season kick-off party.

The Heritage season, running from July 1 through Aug. 7, opens with Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The Sound of Music."

It will be followed by a dose of Christmas in July, with the comedy "A Tuna Christmas," with two actors playing more than 20 denizens of Tuna, Texas.

Next up will be an early glimpse into the comedic mind of a master American playwright with Neil Simon's "Barefoot in the Park."

Wrapping up the summer will be the musical mayhem of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee."

Heritage will host its Season Kick-Off party at the Helms Theatre on June 12 at 7:30 p.m. Members of the Heritage company will give a concert featuring highlights from the upcoming season as well as audience favorites from Heritage seasons past. The evening will end with desserts from Clifton Inn.

Tickets for the Season Kick-Off Party are $30, and are available, along with season subscriptions, at www.uvahtf.org.

Single tickets for all 2010 Heritage Theatre Festival productions will go on sale on June 11. They will be available online, in person at the U.Va. Arts Box Office (in the lobby of the Culbreth Theatre building) and by phone by calling 434-924-3376.
