Sept. 19, 2006 — The McIntire Commerce Council is hosting the second Ellen Whitener Memorial 5K on Saturday, Sept. 23.

The race is held in memory of Ellen Whitener, former senior associate dean in the McIntire School of Commerce, and to honor her contributions to McIntire and to the Charlottesville community at large.

Whitener died in March 2005 after a brief illness. An outstanding scholar and academic leader, she had more than 15 years of experience in human resources management and general consulting in financial services, health care, and government services. The race will begin at the Newcomb Hall West Plaza, between Newcomb Hall and the U.Va. Bookstore. The course will take place around Grounds.

Proceeds from the race will support  Whitener’s faculty fellowship fund, which her family founded to honor her passion for supporting and facilitating development of young professionals.
