National Volunteer Week 2009 at U.Va. is April 20-24

April 20, 2009 — National Volunteer Week 2009 at U.Va. takes place from Monday, April 20, through Friday, April 24. University employees support the community in many ways. The week provides one more opportunity to give back.

In honor of Volunteer Week, U.Va.'s Community Relations Office is hosting a food drive benefitting area food banks. University employees can participate by bringing nonperishable items to one of several drop-off locations around Grounds including Fontaine Research Park, the Piedmont Center or the U.Va. Bookstore. Donations may also be delivered directly to the food bank located at 1207 Harris Street.

Items in most need are canned chicken or tuna, boxed cereal and oatmeal. For a complete list of much needed items, visit the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank's Web site.

Community Relations also offers connections to numerous other volunteer opportunities in our area that might be of interest to University employees and students. For up-to-date volunteer opportunities, click here.
