The first members of the University of Virginia’s Class of 2024 flooded social media Friday evening upon learning they’d been accepted to Virginia’s flagship university.

Early decision – an application option, offered anew this fall, in which applicants promise to attend the University in exchange for early notification of their acceptance – drew 2,159 applications, most from Virginians. UVA offered admission to 748 of the applicants, or 20% of the incoming class, which will comprise about 3,750 first-year students.

There are two more application cycles ahead. Early-action applicants will be notified by mid-February. Regular decision applicants will hear from the Office of Undergraduate Admission by April 1. Both of those categories are non-binding; applicants will have until May 1 to make their decisions.

Using the hashtag “#UVA24,” the newest Hoos (and their parents) from both inside and outside Virginia gleefully shared their news online.
