With a ceremonial first pitch sent right over the plate, University of Virginia School of Law Dean Risa Goluboff kicked off the 41st Annual UVA Law Softball Invitational Friday, raising money for a Charlottesville nonprofit organization.
Players on 74 teams from 39 different schools participated in the weekendlong event. UVA students entered six different teams, with UVA Co-Rec Blue posting the best finish, making it to the semifinals of the Co-Rec Division.
The tournament and the associated activities raised $40,000, a new record, for ReadyKids, which provides counseling, family support and early learning opportunities for disadvantaged children in the Charlottesville area.
