University of Virginia Human Resources will provide the 2012 seasonal flu vaccine to all U.Va. employees, including temporary and wage, from Oct. 22 to 31. UVA-WorkMed staff will administer the vaccine at multiple times and locations across Grounds. A schedule is posted here.

Again this year, the vaccine is a "three-in-one," protecting against two seasonal strains and the H1N1 in a single shot.

The most effective method for protecting employees from influenza infections and their consequences is yearly immunization, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

“While some of you may already have gotten a flu shot as part of your Hoo's Well@ biometric screening, there are still many of you who can and should take advantage of this free opportunity,” Susan Carkeek, vice president and chief human resources officer, wrote in an email employees were to receive today.

“It is one of the easiest and best ways to protect yourself and your family, friends and co-workers from seasonal illness,” she noted.
