Award-winning journalist Katie Couric recently dedicated her Substack to an unsettling episode she experienced at the end of June.
She began her Saturday in Aspen, Colorado, with a visit to the farmer’s market, where she bought peaches for her morning cereal. Then she chose what she would wear for the day. Her memory stops there. Couric lost several hours of memory before recovering the following day. She recounted her experience in a Substack post, “A Day I’ll Never Remember.”
“It was Saturday, June 27, 2026. But when I was asked the month, the year, and who was president, I got them wrong,” she wrote. “I wasn’t sure of the month. I thought it was 2024. And I believed Joe Biden was president.”
Couric would learn she had experienced transient global amnesia, a little-understood, temporary condition that can be frightening for those who suffer it and their loved ones.
