Scholar and Author, Alford, to Give Talk on Oct. 13

October 10, 2008 — C. Fred Alford, author of several books on moral psychology, will speak at 4 p.m. Oct. 13 at the University of Virginia's Miller Center of Public Affairs, 2201 Old Ivy Road.

His topic is "Melanie Klein as Social and Moral Theorist: What She Brings and What She Lacks." Klein was an Austrian psychoanalyst who devised therapeutic techniques for children that influenced present methods of child care and child rearing.

Alford is professor of government and a distinguished scholar and teacher at the University of Maryland. A three-time Fulbright recipient, he is executive director of the Association for Psychoanalysis, Culture and Society. His most recent book is "Psychology and the Natural Law of Reparation."
