Shamim Sisson to Receive U.Va.'s Zintl Award

Sept. 11, 2006 -- Shamim Sisson, who retired in June as senior associate dean of students and director of the Office of Student Life, will be honored on Sept. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. with the Elizabeth Zintl Leadership Award for her professionalism, creativity and commitment to the University. Sisson has served in numerous capacities in student affairs at U.Va. since 1988, bringing to her roles longstanding professional interests in women’s education, communication between men and women, leadership development and interracial understanding. She chaired the University’s Sexual Assault Board from 1998-2006 and co-founded the Women’s Leadership Development Program.

The Women’s Center established the award in memory of Elizabeth Zintl, chief of staff to President John T. Casteen III for several years until her death in 1997. The award will be presented at the Harrison Institute/SmallSpecial Collections Library Auditorium. Space is limited. RSVP to 982-2911 by Sept. 14.
