The social media maelstrom that took place during the men’s basketball team’s game against Duke University on Saturday was intense – and University of Virginia fans were smack in the middle of it.
Quite happily, as it turned out.
From diehard alumni to national media members, to celebrities and politicians, to Coach Tony Bennett’s famous Twitter impersonator, everyone was weighing in on the No. 2 Cavaliers’ first win at Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium since 1995, a 65-63 thriller over the then-fourth-ranked Blue Devils.
Two days later, Wahoos around the world are still smiling about it.
Here are 10 of our favorite posts from a memorable Saturday afternoon.
ESPN plaudits
Duke is averaging 92 points per game this season. Blue Devils heading to the break with just 22. Virginia up 10. I'd beg to differ with anyone who says Virginia isn't a fun team to watch. Tony Bennett is a hell of a coach.

The context: In the past, a number of the sports talking heads have said that Virginia’s methodical, defensive-oriented style is boring. Perhaps that narrative is beginning to change.

The context: Virginia redshirt sophomore Mamadi Diakite may not be familiar with the line from the famous “Seinfeld” episode, but this was essentially his message after blocking Grayson Allen’s breakaway dunk attempt and getting called for goaltending.

The 2nd Virginia Company, led by Capt. Bennett, has been on a recent tear in his winter campaign. He's brought great joy to the community and an inspiration to my men as he scorched the Devils of Blue just as I did only months ago!
