University of Virginia Partners With Community Organizations To Host First Jobs Information And Resource Fair For Local Residents

April 8, 2006 — The University of Virginia Community Relations Office, in partnership with Quality Community Council and Charlottesville Abundant Life Ministries, is hosting a “Jobs at UVA” Information and Resource Fair for community residents from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, at the Monticello Event & Conference Center at 201 Monticello Ave.

“The job-information session has been created in response to community residents’ expressed interest in learning how to navigate the job-application process,” said Ida Lee Wootten, director of community relations at U.Va. “The event will have information about a wide range of positions available throughout the University.”

Planning for the session began early this year when University representatives met with community leaders to discuss the time, location and format for an event that would appeal to residents.

“At QCC, we recognize that economic opportunity is the key to solving so many of our community’s problems,” said Karen Waters, executive director of the Quality Community Council. “We are pleased to partner with U.Va. to improve access to year-round, career-track employment for residents in our neighborhoods.”

At the session, participants will find out about current job openings; meet with University representatives; learn how to navigate the state application process; and have the opportunity to apply for employment.

“University Human Resources is consistently looking for ways to recruit diverse candidates who can help meet current and future staffing needs,” said Nat Scurry, associate vice president and interim chief human resource officer at U.Va.

Admission to the “Jobs at UVA” Information and Resource Fair is free and wheelchair accessible. While parking is limited at the Monticello Event & Conference Center, the venue is located on CTS Bus Route No. 6.
