December 5, 2011 - The University of Virginia is accepting applications for student ambassadors to help host the U.S. pavilion at the World Expo, which will be held next summer in Yeosu, South Korea.
U.Va. will select 40 undergraduate and graduate students for the Student Ambassadors program.
Candidates can come from any American college or university and must be U.S. citizens and proficient in Korean. Applications are being accepted online through Feb. 10. Students will be notified of their selection by Feb. 20.
In addition to greeting visitors to the 12,000-square-foot pavilion and welcoming government officials and dignitaries, student ambassadors will provide administrative, protocol and programming support.
The pavilion will be open 12 hours a day, seven days a week for three months starting May 12, with each ambassador working four days a week. Participants in the program will receive round-trip air fare to Yeosu, housing and a meal stipend.
The Expo is themed "The Living Ocean and Coast" and the theme of the U.S. pavilion is "Diversity, Wonder and Solutions."
