The University of Virginia honored faculty members for their research and scholarship at the sixth annual Research Achievement Awards event held last week at the Boar’s Head Resort.
“Your research, your life’s work, is important to the UVA community. And it is important to the world beyond this place,” Executive Vice President and Provost Ian Baucom told the honorees. “Your work enriches and improves lives in countless ways. It may have taken years to reach your big breakthrough, but it is time well-spent.”
UVA President Jim Ryan said the researchers’ body of work reflects well on the University.
“We have incredibly talented, dedicated researchers here on Grounds, and I’m particularly impressed by the breadth of research represented among this year’s award winners,” Ryan said. “They are growing our understanding of everything from our blood vessels to our oceans, asking important questions about our society and culture, and inspiring the next generation through their leadership and mentorship. I’m deeply grateful for their work and all they contribute to our community.”

Lori L. McMahon, hired as UVA’s new vice president for research just under a year ago, applauded the researchers for their tremendous growth in 2024.
“In 2024, UVA reached an outstanding $549 million in research funding, she said. “This number is a testament to the excellence of the members of our research community and their unwavering commitment to discovery and scholarship.”
