Sept. 7, 2007 — The University of Virginia School of Continuing and Professional Studies now offers a new Certificate in Nonprofit Management.
Created in response to the growing popularity of the SCPS's nonprofit management workshops, this flexible program allows students to entirely customize their own course of study with any combination of classes that total 35 contact hours.
The SCPS offers more than 15 courses each semester, featuring both skill-building and overview instruction designed for nonprofit leaders, staff, board members and volunteers.
Instructors bring real-world expertise gained through years on the front lines of nonprofit work. Peer-to-peer student interaction also is emphasized in order to leverage the lessons learned during the careers of diverse class members.
Students are encouraged to take the workshops that are most valuable to them based on their educational, personal and professional backgrounds and career plans.
Students can take classes over any period of time, allowing them to schedule courses according to their organization’s work flow, fiscal year and budget.
Class costs range from $80 to $175. These one- or two-session classes each provide 3, 4, 6 or 8 contact hours. Fall 2007 classes will be offered on various weekdays from Sept. 20 through Nov. 28. Registration is open now and remains open until a class fills with the maximum of 25 students.
U.Va.’s Certificate of Nonprofit Management offers a range of workshops in the following key areas of nonprofit management:
• Planning and Operations
• Fundraising and Marketing
• Finance and Accounting
• Human Resources and Leadership
• Legal Issues
• Board Development.
All courses emphasize three key themes:
(1) Significance of mission
(2) Importance of key relationships
(3) Application of evolving technologies
