U.Va. Physics Department to Host National Physics Day Show on April 21

March 26, 2010 — The University of Virginia's Department of Physics will host its annual National Physics Day Show on April 21 at 7 p.m. in room 203 of the Physics Building.

Physics professors Bob Jones, Keith Williams and Mike Timmins will entertain the crowd with strange and mystifying presentations. After 15 years of shows, they plan to bring back some of the most interesting and exciting demonstrations ever performed.

Witness the power of atmospheric pressure as they implode a 55-gallon drum. See and hear the effect of resonant vibrations as they break a wine glass using only sound. The professors also will demonstrate some fascinating things you should never do with a microwave oven, as well as many other surprising effects.

For information about this free public event, contact Beth Orser at 434-924-3782 or

Parking is available in the parking garage on Emmett Street, or, after 5 p.m., in the football stadium lots.
