View Life at UVA Through the Eyes of Student Leaders

Newly elected student leaders spoke to UVA Today in May about what makes a unique “My UVA” experience for every Wahoo.

Although every Cavalier walks the same brick paths across the University of Virginia, no two students have the same view of their time on Grounds. Experiences here are rich and varied, and it would be impossible to capture them all in just a few sentences.

With this in mind, UVA Today spoke with newly elected student leaders in May and asked them to offer a small snapshot of their lives on Grounds. Six leaders shared their responses, providing a brief window into some of the daily activities and goals that make up their UVA experience.

Now that the new semester is in full swing, UVA Today has prepared a special portrait of each leader, along with a glimpse of the University through their eyes. For them, “My UVA” is …

“My UVA is compassionate commitment to the advancement of knowledge and progress on the individual, University, and city level.”
- Sarah Kenny,
Student Council President
“My UVA is being covered in orange cheering on the Hoos at basketball games.”
- Omar Elhaj,
Class of 2020 President
“My UVA is walking through our historic Grounds and forging interdisciplinary friendships.”
- Peter Bautz,
Chair of the University Judiciary Committee
“My UVA is challenging unhealthy norms and having real discussions with my friends, residents, and professors.”
- Galen Green,
