Universities offer grants and awards for students, faculty, and alumni, as well as resources that startups could otherwise only dream of. But universities are doing more than just giving out prizes for pitches -- many of them offer full-fledged startup support. The University of Virginia’s iLab, for example, provides direct grants, mentorship, an incubator, and even co-working spaces.

UVA Athletic Director Carla Williams, who played point guard at the University of Georgia nearly 20 years ago, went on to become an administrator at the school. She credits her mentors, all white men, with helping her get the position. “Most of the time, African American women don’t get that opportunity that I did,” she said.
The poll measured the public’s general acceptance of various demographics, rather than gauging support for individual presidential candidates. “People might say in a poll that they want a younger candidate, but that may not be what will actually determine their vote,” said Kyle Kondik, a political analyst at UVA’s Center for Politics.
The other issue concerns timing. "If they haven't done this by February, they're not going to do it then," said Saikrishna Prakash, a law professor and senior fellow at the University of Virginia's Miller Center. By that late date, Trump's fate should belong to the electorate. Prakash isn't sure the full House would produce the votes needed to impeach Trump. And he may be right.
The House Judiciary Committee will grill John Dean, who served as White House counsel for former President Nixon and was tied up in the Watergate controversy, during a public hearing on Monday. Dean was intimately involved in the Watergate cover-up and delivered televised testimony before Congress following his ouster that helped contribute to Nixon’s resignation. “Dean was an incredibly important part of the public, the congressional Watergate investigation,” said Ken Hughes, an expert on Watergate and a research specialist at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center. “He set the ...

Kyle Kondik, managing director of Sabato’s Crystal Ball – a prominent national political forecasting newsletter run out of the University of Virginia – explained that with so many candidates, and no clear frontrunner yet among African Americans, it could be that “there is not a candidate who largely consolidates the black vote like Obama did in 2008 and Clinton did in 2016.”
Democrats need to capture four Republican-held seats, or three GOP seats and the White House, to regain the Senate majority. Larry Sabato, director of UVA’s Center for Politics, rates Democrats’ chances of taking back the Senate in 2020 as “not that good.”
A new study finds that people who occupy a higher place in the socio-economic hierarchy often believe, without evidence, that they are more capable than their lower-class counterparts. "In the middle class, people are socialized to differentiate themselves from others, to express what they think and feel, and to confidently express their ideas and opinions, even when they lack accurate knowledge," lead author Peter Belmi of the University of Virginia said. "By contrast, working-class people are socialized to embrace the values of humility, authenticity and knowing your place in the hierarchy."
